The Big Buddha in Phuket is a famous landmark in Thailand. The Big Buddha, also known as Phra Puttamingmongkol Akenakkiri Buddha, is a large marble statue of Lord Buddha that stands atop Nakkerd Hill in the southern part of Phuket. Here are some key points about the Big Buddha:

  1. Size: The statue is about 45 meters (148 feet) in height and is visible from many parts of the island.

  2. Construction: The construction of the Big Buddha began in 2004 and was funded entirely by donations. It took several years to complete, and it was officially consecrated in 2018.

  3. Material: The statue is made of reinforced concrete with a layer of white jade marble. The choice of white marble gives it a striking appearance.

  4. Views: The location on Nakkerd Hill provides panoramic views of the surrounding areas, including Kata, Karon, Chalong Bay, and even some of the distant islands.

  5. Religious Site: The Big Buddha is considered a sacred site, and visitors are expected to dress modestly when visiting. There is also a smaller, golden statue nearby, as well as bells and prayer flags.

  6. Access: Visitors can reach the Big Buddha by road, and there is a staircase leading up to the statue. It's a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike.
